Susan Merrick qualified as a dietitian in 1993. Then followed 2 years general dietetics work in a general hospital, 4 ½ years in health promotion and 2 ½ years in clinical community dietetics. Since 2002 she has worked in the field of clinical nutrition support, as a team leader and Macmillan Dietitian in the NHS.
Susan’s main areas of interest and expertise are dietary and nutrition support advice (with food, supplements and artificial feeding) for the elderly and those with dementia, for people with cancer, chest disease and neurological and gastrointestinal problems (including irritable bowel syndrome and Coeliac disease).
Dietitians are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat diet and nutrition related problems. They translate the science of diet and nutrition into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices. The title dietitian can only be used by those appropriately trained professionals who have registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Susan is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (DT5743) and is a member of the British Dietetic Association, Freelance Dietitians Group of the BDA and Coeliac UK.
